Port Nelson supports the Marine Engineering Cluster in Te Tauihu
Situated at the top of the South Island, the Calwell Slipway is owned and operated by Port Nelson Ltd. The third largest slipway in New Zealand, it can comfortably accommodate vessels up to 80m in length, 13.5m beam and weight of up to 2,500 tonnes. It is adjoined by a 130 tonne slipway that can accommodate vessels up to 25m length. Alongside the slipway are three dedicated lay-up berths, catering to vessels with a maximum length of 100m and 8m draft. Smaller vessels can be accommodated at the adjacent Nelson Slipway www.nelsonslipway.co.nz.
Based in the heart of Nelson's marine engineering cluster, the slipway's location enables onsite access to a number of internationally recognised:
- Marine engineering firms
- Electrical and communication contractors
- Fabricators
- Surveyors
- Sailmakers, riggers, upholsterers and cabinetmakers
Nelson provides a sheltered harbour inside the 13km long Boulder Bank, in a region that consistently achieves the highest sunshine hours in New Zealand.
Situated an easy 10-minute walk from the CBD, and with easy access to a wide range of modern support services, doing business in Nelson is both convenient and practical.
