Maintenance Manager

Here is an opportunity to make your mark by taking responsibility for not only the management of day-to-day maintenance functions but also the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans for maintenance and reliability.
About the role
You will lead Port Nelson’s Maintenance team, ensuring high standards of operational safety and efficiency for all people, assets, systems and procedures. Your mandate: to exceed internal customer expectations, achieving operational excellence and financial targets.
This will include:
- Leadership: lead and develop your team, build high levels of employee engagement, drive a high performance, safety first culture, and be an active member of the company’s Leadership Team.
- Maintenance Management: develop and implement a maintenance strategy to ensure the safety and efficiency of all mobile plant and utilities.
- Commercial Management: Manage the R&M budget, including analysis of maintenance costs to determine total lifecycle cost of equipment. Operate the maintenance team as a customer centric operation.
- Asset Management: Provide input to asset planning, including taking a major role in the acquisition of new plant, machinery and spares. Ensure the ongoing development and use of the Planned Maintenance Package.
- Contractor Management: Manage service/breakdown maintenance relationships and contracts.
- Continuous Improvement: drive a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
This is a pivotal role. As such we seek a smart, dynamic self-starter who thrives under pressure and can cope with tight deadlines and change. An influencer, with exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, you are able to get others on board with new ways of doing things.
You must have the following in your skills toolbox:
- A solid foundation in a trade/maintenance role backed by a relevant trade qualification (mechanic preferred).
- Minimum 5 years experience in similar maintenance leadership role within similarly complex operations.
- The ability to engage and spark action in people, “sell the concept” of reliability centred maintenance and its benefits into the business.
- You have proven your ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal teams and contractors.
- Experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good grasp of computerised systems and how best to use them - experience using Maximo would be advantageous.
